Di Canio and his team have all the reasons to throw a great party after the impressive performance from last Sunday in the game against Everton. The 1-0 victory of The Black Cats over Everton was a sheer surprise for their fans, and also for their manager, Italian Di Canio, who performed his first home game at the Stadium of Light. Unfortunately, this unexpected result led to me losing the bet I placed on Everton at bwin.

Until this match, Sunderland had gone 17 league games without a victory against David Moyes’ side. Stephane Sessegnon was the man of the match, as he scored the only goal of the game using a firmly-struck drive from 18 yards, only a few seconds before half-time.

This match was more of a Sunderland’s revival, since they came into the game on the back of a 3-0 annihilation suffered a week ago in the match with Newcastle, from the Tyne-Wear. On the other hand, the chances of Everton concerning the Champions League qualification were handed a boost due to a fabulous performance which they’ve shown in the 0-0 draw with Arsenal midweek.

With this rewarding result, Sunderland move 6 points above the relegation zone, with a total of 37 points and four league games left to play.
