Nice vs. Lyon
Saturday, May 18th 2013, 22:00 CET
Even though the game in Nice started a day later due to heavy rain which provoked the match to be postponed, it still provided room for entertainment. The fight at the top of Ligue 1 is still in full swing even though the top 2 teams already secured their Champions League spots. At the beginning of the game there were only three points separating the two teams, so a victory was crucial for both.
The game started evenly enough, and the first big scoring chance came in the 15th minute when Digard and Bosetti were so close to opening the scoring table. This attack by their opponents woke Lyon up and the ball possession increased for the visitors. Despite that they still managed only one shot on goal during the first half. Shortly after the pickup, Kone fouled Cvitanich in the penalty area and the referee pointed to the white spot, which Nice’s player didn’t miss.
Lyon tried to fight back and had several good tries mainly through Gomis and Lacazette, but both were denied the goal by Nice’s goalkeeper. On the 73 minute Lyon became a ten men team after Gonalons saw the second yellow card of the game and was sent out. Somehow this served as a trigger for Lyon and several minutes later Gernier took a free kick that flew right into the net. Now that they there was a draw on the scoring table, both teams sent everyone available in attack, but the winning goal never came.
Nice will still continue to fight for their European dream, and Lyon will try to distance themselves from Saint Etienne. Still, this draw made me lose the bet I placed on a Lyon win with odds from Betfair.
Result:-6 units, bet lost
