Manchester City vs. Liverpool
Thursday, December 26th 2013, 18:30 CET
The last matchday changed the Premier League table a little and now Liverpool is first thanks to a better goal difference than the team placed second which is Arsenal. The momentum has Liverpool in a better place after victories against the likes of West Ham United, Tottenham and most recently Cardiff City.
Brendan Rogers’ team plan to win against a Man City side that has recently won against the European Champions Bayern Munich, and against Arsenal who are the former Premier League leaders. Last year, the two teams parted after a 2-2 draw after Liverpool led for the majority of the match. It was Sergio Aguero who scored the late equalizer to bring City one point.
And it is Aguero who will be missing this clash as a result of a leg muscle problem that could keep him off the field until late January. Liverpool is without Daniel Sturridge and Steven Gerrard, but they have Luis Suarez who managed to score 19 goals in just 12 games this season. Joe Hart should start in the goal for City after their 4-2 win at Fulham, even though Pellegrini admitted that Pantilimon was doing a fantastic job as it is.
Liverpool can use this match to prove that their form has improved vastly and that their latest results are no mistake, while Man City has a 4 goals per game scoring quota which is why over 2.5 goals should be a market many will go for. Luis Suarez is the player many will back in the goalscorer market and City, even with scoring a lot are not immune to conceding, so Suarez to score 2 or more goals should bring some value.
888sport has Man City to win at 1.75, and Liverpool is positioned at 4.30, and it’s not that Liverpool lacks the quality to win, it’s just that the question lies in whether they will be able to withstand for a whole of 90 minutes against Manchester City attacks.
